This past week, my fiance, Reuben, indulged me by finding us a Sunday softball game here in Boston. I can say that it was really pleasant but it ain’t no Central Park. First off, there was only one field and instead of worrying about crashing into other players in the outfield, there was a pack of dogs (with owners of course) running around on the field. They play with strikeouts but seem pretty laid back about it all. I’m sure I’ll get used to the new game but can’t wait, and now highly covet, my Sunday’s at the Hecksher ballfields. I plan to be there on May 4th. See you all then.

And for all the Mad Dogs fans, I just posted this summer’s 2008 schedule of games.

Cheers,
Mimi

Yes, it is that time of year again. Opening Day will be on April 6, 2008, which comes in slightly early this year. In years passed, we have had an opening season party during which people have been able to catch up with their friends, sponsor a game and try to remember the faces of fellow players from the year before.

This year, because the season is starting only one month from now, we won’t be having the opening season party. Please plan to show up at 4pm [instead of 5pm] prior to the first game to stretch a bit, see old friends, put in $30 to claim your ball, have a pre-game beer and hit the ball a few times before someone yells “Play Ball!”

Hecksher Ball Fields – Field #5 – Located at around 64th Street on the west side of Central Park. For more detailed location info, hit: Central Park Baseball/Softball.

Contact Captains Terry or Andrew with any questions. Also check out “About the Cats & Dogs” which has lots of great fun FAQ’s.

Ben says that after the Globetrotters game this Friday, February 15, 2008 at Madison Square Garden, he’ll be hanging at Brother Jimmy’s.

Brother Jimmy’s
416 8th Avenue @ 31st Street

See you there.

Hi everyone:

The globetrotters are in February not January. I changed the blog post.

I would like to train someone to do this blog posting work. Now that we have a built in email capability and some other cool plugins it would be nice if someone else know what to do.

Who’s interested? Let me know.

Thanks!

Mimi

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I am writing at this moment. Our incredible, generous, spirited and beloved friend Roberto lost his battle with ALS this morning. Many of you only met him in the last few years while he was in a wheelchair, others have know him for decades as a friend who becomes family, as a captain who could always keep the peace, as an enduring optimistic spirit and one fantastic ball player. He had the kindest smile and a compliment for everyone. I for one will remember him as being one of the most gracious humans I have ever met (and one of the best batting advisors too). He was a patriarch in his family as he was a leader amongst his friends.

Please forgive us for not being able to call each and every one of you personally.

Funeral and Wake information will be sent out as soon as arrangements have been made by his family.

If you need further information, please feel free to contact Mimi at mimi.gaber@gmail.comor Andrew or Kitty Martin at: kitand96@juno.com

RoFest 2007

INSPURRATION FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF TEAM PLAYERS…

RoFest 2007

Rofest started a few years ago to celebrate the fab life and times of our great friend and fellow softball player Roberto Rosado who was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gherig’s disease) several years ago. He’s still going strong enjoying his life and friends and living large..

This year’s celebration will be no different.

Join us on June 16th

The Bridge Cafe
1pm-4pm

The Bridge is located at:
16 1/2 Dover St (at Pearl Street)
New York, NY 10038
(212) 227-3344

If you aren’t sure where this is…plug the address into google maps and it will pop-up. It’s located right next to the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side. Take subways to City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge and walk East.

Each year, Adam Weprin wholeheartedly and happily hosts this celebration which includes drinks and lunch. This year we ask for a small donation to pay the man in the kitchen who prepares lunch for the day. He will be working hard for the party. The rest of Adam’s wait staff donate their time for the event. After this one small cost is covered, any additional money collected will be donated to the MDA-ALS foundation.
