Hi Everyone:
Let the games begin. Come around 4:45 to get the rust off and add your name to the list. We play at Heckscher Field # 5 at 5:00 until dark.

Dear Cats and Dogs,

I wanted you all to know that our cherished softball game has joined the 21st century teaming up with with Meetup.com in order to put field #5 to use and guarantee that on any given Sunday we have enough players to play a game for the remainder of the season.

Last weekend, July 6th Andy and I were host to a full round of hitting, and a nine inning 15-13 Dogs over Cats, game in which we had 22 players. The regulars were Jeremy, Timmy, Lukas, (Tim’s pal), Dale, Terry, Andrew, Troy, Marita, with Ben and Natasha injured on the sideline, and Johnny the beerman reopening his concession at Field 5. The rest of the squad were new and very nice, fun people: Michael, Mike, Lati, Angela, Chip, Rob M, Alex, Ted, Ray, Matt, and several others whom without the list I can not remember.

There were 9 players ready to throw at 5PM and two full teams by 5:30. The game started at 5:45 and ended at 7:55. Several new players left comments on the site and others have signed up for July 20th game and I just added July 13th: next weekend’s game.

Please visit the Meetup website to see what it is all about. Officially join the “softball group” and you’ll get the updates. http://softball.meetup.com/84/calendar/8300415/
and RSVP for the game this coming Sunday or the week after.

Please come by 5:15 so your name is on the list and you get in some throws and swings.

All for now…

Andy and I have counted the number of Cat and Dog regulars who have been “no shows” this first half of the season and the list is L O N G. We also have had 50% less sponsorship than past years. We both are wondering if Cats and Dogs Softball as we have known it needs tweaked, redefined or disbanded?

We would like your thoughts about the following.
*One thought is to create a coed league and field one Cat/Dog team and play other coed teams in the 5 PM – 8PM time slot and maybe cross pollinate that with joining an organized league one day a week.
*Another is to actively recruit new people through our social networks or an internet interest group option.
*And lastly, and the least attractive is to give up the permit for next season.

Andy and I encourage you to join us over the 4th of July weekend at the July 5th Annual Independent Cat and Dog Game. Please bring a friend. Come at 5PM, Hecksher #5.

A very big thank you to Jeremy, Wendy, Karin, Kathleen, Fred, Jeff, Ben, Andrew, for heeding the Captains’ email and being at the field right on time at 5PM on Sunday.

Batting practice began as soon as warm up throws were finished and by 5:55 we started a 4 on 4 on 4 game with the addition of Dave, Mimi, Juan, Ron, and Megan.

Those of you who came during the one inning 4-4-4 game Tim C, Dale, Deb, Jonathan, Ed, (one other I am forgetting) please try and come sooner. Upon seeing we had enough players for two teams at 6:20 we stopped the game and revamped the three team format to a two team format Cats and Dogs resumed play. It was a topsy turvy game with the Cats winning 11-10 in their last ups in the seventh inning with a triple by Jeff, a great defensive play by Fred, and a game winning hit by Megan.

See you all at 5PM next (and every remaining) Sunday…
