Hi Cats and Dogs

Terry posted this message which I did not get so we are assuming others are not getting the posts. We will try it again. Hope to see you all soon.

Andrew

From Terry:

Andy and I have counted the number of Cat and Dog regulars who have been “no shows” this first half of the season and the list is L O N G. We also have had 50% less sponsorship than past years. We both are wondering if Cats and Dogs Softball as we have known it needs tweaked, redefined or disbanded?

We would like your thoughts about the following.
*One thought is to create a coed league and field one Cat/Dog team and play other coed teams in the 5 PM – 8PM time slot and maybe cross pollinate that with joining an organized league one day a week.
*Another is to actively recruit new people through our social networks or an internet interest group option.
*And lastly, and the least attractive is to give up the permit for next season.

Andy and I encourage you to join us over the 4th of July weekend at the July 6th Annual Independent Cat and Dog Game. Please bring a friend. Come at 5PM, Hecksher #5.

Terry

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to drop you a short note to inform you that the Walk to Defeat ALS- the walk that Roberto did last year to raise money for ALS research- will be happening again. This year for the first time, a walk will be held in NYC (Hudson River Park’s Pier 46), Saturday May 17 @ 9:30am. I hope many of you will be able to walk with my sister Rachel and me to help raise money for a cure.
Please donate whatever you can. Every minute of research brings us a little closer to finding a cure, an answer, to this horrible and devastating disease. Roberto did clinical testing, did walks to raise funds, got his friends and friends of friends to donate their time and services to raise funds. And up to the very end he did what he could to help in the research in finding a cure to this horrible disease. He donated his body for research. He is no longer here. But I know he left behind many caring people.
Please make a donation, walk, and help bring awareness to this disease.

Thank you on behalf of my sisters Rachel and Daisy, and myself and may God bless all of you.

Thanks,

Ivette

PS
There will be food, refreshments, music, and face painting at the end of the walk. :)

Perhaps he’ll show up on Sunday again more often if the Cats and Dogs show up to see

Joel’s Band, Jesus H Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse…they are playing on Easter Sunday

Here’s what their website says:

New York-based Jesus H Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse are an eight-piece rock/pop/punk/folk/metal/cabaret band. Likened to B-52s meets X-Ray Spex meets Weezer meets Blood Sweat and Tears, the JHC “difference” is horny, thinking-person’s, emotionally-bare lyrics protectively cloaked in hard candy pop. All original, stylishly diverse, stick-in-your-head songs about being bicoastal, stealing your boyfriends’ Kenneth Anger and Balzac references, compassion fatigue, boobs, Old Lyme, and widower-lust, with roaring guitars and celestial horns. Poignant, laughable, awash in sound and fury, signifying nothing, but saying everything that no one usually dares to say, JHC&TFHotA are really just eager to be held and loved. At which point they’ll become distant and forget to buy toilet paper.

JHC&TFHotA members have played with Prince, Elvis Costello and Twiggy, with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, on Broadway in numerous shows including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Wicked and in The Producers. Literary credits include a Pushcart Prize, and authoring the book Taxi Driver Wisdom. One “member” invented a beer called High & Mighty. They are playing on Easter Sunday at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater NYC

Yes, it is that time of year again. Opening Day will be on April 6, 2008, which comes in slightly early this year. In years passed, we have had an opening season party during which people have been able to catch up with their friends, sponsor a game and try to remember the faces of fellow players from the year before.

This year, because the season is starting only one month from now, we won’t be having the opening season party. Please plan to show up at 4pm [instead of 5pm] prior to the first game to stretch a bit, see old friends, put in $30 to claim your ball, have a pre-game beer and hit the ball a few times before someone yells “Play Ball!”

Hecksher Ball Fields – Field #5 – Located at around 64th Street on the west side of Central Park. For more detailed location info, hit: Central Park Baseball/Softball.

Contact Captains Terry or Andrew with any questions. Also check out “About the Cats & Dogs” which has lots of great fun FAQ’s.

Ben says that after the Globetrotters game this Friday, February 15, 2008 at Madison Square Garden, he’ll be hanging at Brother Jimmy’s.

See you there.

Hi everyone:

The globetrotters are in February not January. I changed the blog post.

I would like to train someone to do this blog posting work. Now that we have a built in email capability and some other cool plugins it would be nice if someone else know what to do.

Who’s interested? Let me know.

Thanks!

Mimi

Cats & Dogs…I have added a new subscriber function to the blog. If you register to write posts, you should be able to write a post and send it to everyone on your own. Please contact me (mimi.gaber@gmail.com) for more info.

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I am writing at this moment. Our incredible, generous, spirited and beloved friend Roberto lost his battle with ALS this morning. Many of you only met him in the last few years while he was in a wheelchair, others have know him for decades as a friend who becomes family, as a captain who could always keep the peace, as an enduring optimistic spirit and one fantastic ball player. He had the kindest smile and a compliment for everyone. I for one will remember him as being one of the most gracious humans I have ever met (and one of the best batting advisors too). He was a patriarch in his family as he was a leader amongst his friends.

Please forgive us for not being able to call each and every one of you personally.

Funeral and Wake information will be sent out as soon as arrangements have been made by his family.

If you need further information, please feel free to contact Mimi at mimi.gaber@gmail.comor Andrew or Kitty Martin at: kitand96@juno.com

RoFest 2007

…as some of you know, I attended a girlie fest. Here’s what we look like from very high up. Look to the bottom left of that horrible Trump building.
